In early July 2026, I headed to Anrakuji Temple in Ichinoseki, Iwate Prefecture, a place where calligrapher Shukou-icco had asked me to come for a meeting.

It was a day of intermittent rain. In the light drizzle, wild birds were singing, and the air felt very calm and pleasant. There was a small Tenmangu shrine within the temple grounds, which reminded me of the traditional-style shinobue flute I played last year at Kitano Tenmangu in Kyoto.
